Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 2nd-8th graders that have been accepted into the Gifted and Talented academy for our district.
Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch.
Most of my students do not have computers at home, which means students need to learn about technology and resources in the classroom. Since the students are in low income areas they do not have access to a lot of extra food.
My Project
I have a love for couponing that I think my students would benefit from. I would like to teach my 7th and 8th graders about financial literacy through couponing and reading sales papers. Everything is offered digitally now a days and my vision is to get my students to check out sales papers online using chromebooks and comparing them to the coupons in the papers. They would be able to create digital lists in Google and share with others or use pen and paper to write the lists down. Using the paper, scissors and coupon envelopes they would be able to print out coupons that go along with the sales to take to the store.
It would also be great to watch videos on couponing and creating the videos to teach all the students in the school about how to save money.
Through couponing and getting some inspiration from extreme couponing these students will be able to live on a budget and eat like they were living the luxurious life.
The older students will also be able to create a blog and videos talking about saving money to inspire others in the school and community.
