Connect our Classroom...to the UK that is! Countries Connect is a unique project which will link my 2nd grade students to an equivalent age-level class in the UK. The UK connection has already been made and they are equipped with the necessary technology.
My students are fabulous, dedicated and curious as any other students are.
In this technological age, my students should be as well equipped as others in this nation and even more global. Some of my students experiences are vast while others are limited. I want to provide an experience which will last a lifetime and advance their technological skills as well. Our school is fortunate enough to have individual laptops for each student but one missing element to this project are webcams and microphones. To be able to connect to another country, this is required. The sky is the limit with this project but my goal is to incorporate as much technology as possible but first building connections with students of another country. I hope this will provide motivation for writing while enhancing their technology experience. I would also love to collaborate with my fellow UK educator on lessons so that my students can experience this digital classroom.
My Project
Webcams will bring this project ALIVE! To be able to converse and learn about another country/culture like they are sitting together in the same room while miles apart is exciting! This nominal cost will connect students who would normally never become acquainted with one another. They will be given tasks to complete while engaging in face to face activities and this will hopefully springboard their motivation to write and strengthen literacy skills. By sending and receiving mail, students can converse multiple ways the entire school year.
I feel this project will make an impact on my students in several ways: advancing them in this ever-changing world of technology, strengthening literacy/numeracy skills, providing a unique experience which will remain with them for years to come and exposing them to another culture/country.
More importantly, this project is designed to motivate ALL students and strengthen ALL students' skills.
