Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a preschool teacher at a low income school in Indianapolis. One hundred percent of my students are eligible for the free breakfast and lunch program. On top of the challenges they face in their home environment, we are now facing the added challenge of having spent most of this year learning virtually where they were asked to learn in that same home environment.
Despite the challenges my young learners face, they are always eager to learn.
I am so excited to able to offer the children in my class a wonderful, first experience to school and learning. I want to instill the love of learning in their little minds!
My Project
Number recognition and fluency are important parts of your preschooler's early learning development. Preschool age students are capable of recognizing many numbers and are becoming aware of how to compare large and small objects. They are starting to understand the number 5 is more than the number 1.
In preschool, math learning is all about counting, number recognition, and one-to-one correspondence.
Number sense is so important for your young math learners because it promotes confidence and encourages flexible thinking. It allows your children to create a relationship with numbers and be able to talk about math as a language. I explain to my students that numbers are just like letters. Each letter has a sound and when you put them together they make words. Well, every digit has a value and when you put those digits together they make numbers!
