This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a west side school in a large city in Illinois that has 98% free lunch for students. My students are very high energy and spirited and super-excited to come to school. Because of limited monies and resources in the neighborhood, we have to be very creative with the resources and funds we do receive every year to extend their learning.
My students are up for any challenges but they need some support to help them be all that they can be as productive citizens, ever-growing learners, and competent business people. The majority of this year's students have not been in any day care or school setting before so we want to make sure we prepare them to the best of our ability.
My Project
My students love working with manipulatives and so having the Magna-Tiles in a variety of geometric shapes will help them see how shales work together in the world around them. They will be able to build cars and other 3 dimensional objects. The see inside counting tubes will help students see the number of objects they are working with as they practice counting. The number bots will integrate fine motor skills with their love of tranformer type toys as they show and order the numbers. These manipulatives will work as independent toys during center time when students have a choice of what to work on during math. Having these materials will help them see the patterns, numbers and representative amount of the numbers while they play.
