We are an at-risk preschool program housed in a Title I elementary school. Our students are creative, imaginative, and curious. We are always looking for new ways to help us learn math, handwriting, and science. Most of these students are unable to afford the rich preschool environment that they deserve.
Most students do not have access to learning materials or even an adult to read to them outside of our classroom.
We want to build a rich, learning-based environment in which our students are given the ability to explore math, science, and art concepts.
My Project
These materials will help children learn to recognize numbers, learn how to run a small farmers market stand, strengthen social skills and problem solving. Children will be able to learn about what types of foods people grow, their life cycles, practice counting out how many items they have in their baskets, and learning how to play with other children. The children will have to learn how to split jobs up. Who will be the cashier, the customer, or the stock person. Each year we do a large unit talking about trees (what comes from trees, how they grow, and what lives in trees, along with going on and apple orchard field trip) By using the farmer market to double as an apple orchard it will enhance the experience the children will have in the classroom.
