Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is the first year of traditional schooling. The goal in my kindergarten classroom is for students to learn social skills and fundamental basics of knowledge that will guide them through the next 12 or more years of school. Over half of my wonderful kindergarten students are learning English. Their diverse backgrounds make our classroom a wonderful place to be!
My rambunctious kindergartners are experiencing all the new thrills of school and are excited to learn new things each day.
My students come together each day with the same goal: to learn new things and create new friendships. They are excited about learning letters, numbers, and the foundations of reading and math!
My Project
Kindergarten is the place where students learn foundational mathematical skills such as number sense, counting, basic addition and subtraction, and number representation. Kindergarten math involves a lot of hands-on manipulatives so different learning styles can be engaged. With 20 students, managing and distributing those manipulatives daily can be a huge challenge.
This project will allow me to build 20 individual math manipulative boxes that will each contain 10 frame with counters, 10 frame number deck, counting chips, 10 frame dice, and a box to store the items in.
These kits will eliminate the challenge of losing important instructional time distributing materials and allow students self control and management of their math tools. Creating ownership in materials also teaches student responsibility. These kits will be used each day in our math instruction.
