Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are inner city youths with a passion for sports! However, at this current time, we have no organized sports, and as the middle school physical education teacher, I am solely responsible for getting this program off the ground. My students are amazing, alive, and vibrant. My gym is their second home. They love to spend time here with me and I need to have the materials to properly and effectively teach.
My students, as you will see at the conclusion of this project, are ready to demolish the court when we get these resources!

My Project
This project has had DonorsChoose support for the past 3 years and has developed into the most anticipated event of our community! Each year we welcome almost 800 students and their family and community members to our annual outdoor field day!
This event is our annual Family Fun Day 2020; hosted on our very own school grounds for 600 students and over 200 family and community members!
It is an outdoor field day with 20 plus fun-filled stations for students and their families to rotate through. Why is this event so special? Well our inner city of over 24,000 students has 100 percent free lunch so our students are not spending summers at Disney, nor at their backyard pool. This end of the year event is the most spectacular event of their summer! Families already requested the day of the event so they can request the day off from work! Families bring their lawn chairs, portable grills and coolers and spend from 9am until 3pm on our school grounds enjoying the event with their families and rotating through the stations with their children! It is a true family day of bonding!
It is truly their summer trip to Great Adventures. It is their family summer vacation and celebration of the hard year of work.
It is extremely important to our staff of 50 plus that we provide our students with the most amazing Family Fun Day and these requested slides, courses and bounce houses are the core events the students dream of, write about and even draw for months and years after the event! We know because we have hosted it for the past 3 years here at our school with tremendous success thanks to our wonderful partners at DonorsChoose!
