My Students
I am a school counselor in a middle school with appropriately six hundred students. My school is located in the inner city with students that mostly come from low, socio-economic living conditions. About ninety-five percent of our students are on free or reduced price lunch. We believe that our students are capable of achieving great things with support from our staff, community partners and parents.
As a counselor, I ensure the social, emotional and academic needs of students are met while providing support to parents, teachers, and staff.
I provide services to my students such as individual counseling, group counseling, academic planning, classroom guidance and career interest preparation. I also provide staff development presentations and parent workshops.
My Project
As counselor, I would like to be able to provide rewards, encouragement and motivation for my students to continue to achieve goals. Some students are working on academic goals while others may be striving to improve their behavior.
I chose rewards that would appeal to teens like cute earbud headphones, inspirational bracelets, stress balls, retractable ball point pens, decorative pencils and punch cards.
Tangible rewards provide positive reinforcement for students who have improved academically or have improved their behavior. Everyone likes a pat on the back and a small treat from the treasure chest can be very encouraging.
