My Students
I work at Title One school with approximately 475 students. Many of my students have very chaotic home lives and multiple adverse childhood experiences. As the school counselor, my office is one of the first places students come to when they are experiencing stress or big emotions. My students and I work together to find ways to cope with stressors.
My goal is to teach my students how to remain calm and peaceful, even when the world around them is not.
My Project
I've chosen to create a safe and welcoming spot for students who are having a difficult time calming down in their classroom. As the counselor, students are often sent to my office when they are having a difficult time in class. This project will allow me to create a space that students can go to when they need a safe space in my office.
I have asked for a teepee and a bean bag to create a fun and safe place for students to go when they are emotionally overwhelmed.
This allows students to practice their coping skills in a fun and conformable space.
