I have been in education for almost 11 years as a special education teacher. I have recently completed my Master's degree in Counselor Education. I started my career as a school counselor two years ago at a local Title I elementary school.
My students are so eager and willing to learn and most of them seem legitimately happy to be at our school.
Each one of them comes from a different, although at times similar, background and home environment but our school works very hard to ensure students are given a loving, nurturing, and homey environment while they are at school with us. Each one of them is so unique and possesses the qualities and characteristics that make our school the best it can be!
My Project
These materials will help my students express their feelings and emotions through art, and also keep journals of their art work. Many students express themselves better through writing, painting and/or creating different things. Using the paint, markers, other art supplies, it is my hope I can encourage students to express their emotions through drawing, painting and using their other creative skills.
Most students love art and creating their own masterpieces, so I figured, why not also use counseling through art?
These materials will help me help my students with their social and emotional needs and also help them express themselves in an appropriate way.
