Help me give my students the ability to have the world at their fingertips! Allowing me to have an iPad to use with students will open up an entirely new world of counseling techniques.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students that I service are magnificent! Our elementary school services students in grades PK-8 and is a low income/high poverty school district. Most of these students are being raised in single-parent households and some live in undesirable conditions. These students have many obstacles in their everyday life, but they are so eager to learn and crave positive attention from caring adults. These students are smart, energetic, capable and loving. As a counselor, I want to help each student become the best person they can be through teaching them what social and emotional health is.
My Project
Allowing myself and my students access to an iPad would make a world of difference in their lives. There are endless apps that are available to help children learn coping skills, self-regulation, friendship building skills and morals...just to name a few. Our students are accustom to the internet and are very tech savvy. It is a great way for students to come into my office and get great counseling skills with my assistance through interactive apps. This is especially helpful for students who a have a difficult time sitting still. Instead of just talking through strategies, we can put them to use and the students mind can continuously be engaged. I know this would help my students tremendously and they would be open to an entirely new world of techniques!
