Our classroom is comprised of a very diverse group of students who come from a variety of backgrounds, countries, and cultures. Students in our grade level range from English language learners, students with special learning needs, behavioral needs, and high achievers. Because of the unique demographic in our classrooms, we seek out learning experiences that engage our students in multiple intelligences.
The students in our classroom need to have valuable real world experiences that provide them with strong background knowledge, cultural perspectives, and the opportunity to be hands on.
These experiences will help to cultivate their love for learning as well as give them essential tools, skills and background they need to be successful in today’s world.
Over the course of the last 2 years, I have been providing my students with flexible seating options in our classroom to recreate and redesign our space to be more welcoming and inviting. My hope is that students feel more comfortable in our classroom.
The effects of feeling more comfortable and flexible in seating in our classroom is that students are provided with more opportunities for collaboration and conversation, cultivating a strong classroom community which in turn creates stronger, more well rounded students.
My hope is that by transforming our space little by little, students will be active in the process of creating the best environment for their learning. Providing them with choice seating options puts the power of learning in students own hands.
