Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These dancers are students at a Title 1 school in the West Valley. They are hard working students without the luxury of studio training and background.
These young men and women have opened themselves up to the dance program and have discovered talent and passion they did not know existed.
These students have had to make do with old, ill fitting, poor quality clothing that has had to suffice for costumes.
We are finally able to afford costumes that showcase our students talents and have seen the difference in their self confidence, their performance quality, and their excitement. The difference in the production quality is immeasurable. Although these students do not have the means to afford traditional dance lessons in a dance studio, they are being exposed to high quality training within a Title 1 school environment.
My Project
Our students fund raise tirelessly to be able to earn funds for costumes for our yearly performances. Without these costumes the students would have to use their own money and clothing for costumes. We have slowly been able to rebuild the costume closet and have replaced old, poor quality costumes with high quality, stage worthy costumes.
We currently do not have any means of preserving these costumes and our costume closet has frequent problems with infestations resulting in our costumes being compromised.
I am requesting hangers, three clothing racks and a roll of garment bags. These racks and protective bags will ensure the costumes we have purchased will be preserved and protected for future use.
