My Students

As a Title I middle school, our student population consists of over 82% receiving free or reduced lunch. Our school is a neighborhood school that recently changed to a STEM magnet. These changes were made in part to even the playing field for students such as ours that are from severely economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Economic hardship and limited cultural experiences has been a reality for many of our students.

Even with the new STEM exposure, many of our students have not had even minimal exposure to the arts, culture or any experiences that are so important to their being global citizens. Most importantly, these students, many of which have never travelled outside of Pasco County, Florida

My Project

We are asking for assistance in providing our students with a life changing opportunity. As a Title I middle school, our student population consists of over 82% receiving free or reduced lunch. Economic hardship and limited cultural experiences has been a reality for many of our students. We have sought to change that for some and have arranged for many of our students in the Spanish language classes to take an educational tour of Costa Rica. This once in a lifetime trip will not only allow our students to practice the Spanish language in an intensive manner but will also provide them with an opportunity to experience the rich Latin culture and the unique Costa Rican rain forest. Most importantly, these students, many of which have never travelled outside of Pasco County, Florida, to have the opportunity to broaden their worldview by meeting the people and experiencing the art, culture and natural beauty of Costa Rica.

Unfortunately some of our students have had to back out of attending the trip because of financial limitations.

We are asking for assistance in sponsoring the fees for these very deserving students. Any assistance at all would be very appreciated.
