Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are as colorful and diverse as the artwork that they make in my classes. Most of my students come from homes where both parents work, in many cases more than one job, and many of the kids are employed to assist in the financial security of the family. Students in my classes become a close-knit family of sorts, and relationships formed in class often lead to true and lasting friendships. My students are "my kids", and they know this. Even when they have been caught doing something wrong, many will come to me to talk about their bad decisions and how they know that I must be disappointed in them. Together, we work to make my room a safe and open space for all students to learn, push themselves, and try new things without fear so that the teens I see become risk-takers of the best variety!
My Project
My advanced studio class, Drawing and Painting, is where students typically have access to more sophisticated media with which to reach their vision artistically speaking. With all of my classes meeting virtually, handing out paint is not going to happen without help. Traditionally I purchase paint in pints and students are able to access these as needed. We share brushes and pallets and it is usually good. This year I do not have a way to provide that (or even a similar) experience for students in a Drawing & PAINTING class.
The sets of brushes I have in my list will work with both types of paint (gouache and acrylic) in this request.
I have paper that I can send home as needed and will encourage my students to be creative about finding surfaces (like cardboard) upon which to paint when paper is unavailable.
