I teach in a low-income/high-poverty school district. My students face challenges both in and out of the classroom every single day. Despite these challenges, they still come to school with a smile on their face, ready to work, learn and have fun.
I am always looking to purchase more supplies and materials to make my students' experiences as wonderful as possible.
It is my desire to give them every available opportunity to make their time in school a rewarding and successful experience for them every day. I want them to look back and remember their K-8 education as a positive, happy and joyful time in their lives.
Sometimes we don't realize how important supplies are until we don't have them. Every school is different in the way they manage classroom basics, but we as teachers are tasked with ordering what we can with a very small budget. I receive 2 boxes of white copy paper at the beginning of the school year, but I use that for study sheets and quizzes for my middle school students.
What I'm hoping to get with this project is access to colored copy paper for notices, chorus and instrumental permission slips, and in the winter and spring, concert programs.
I also handle a fair amount of the fundraising responsibilities throughout the year and I would love to be able to send home colorful notices, whether we're raising funds for CT Children's Medical Center or Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury. Important information always stands on on colored paper!
