This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a diverse bunch, and they are at the stage where they are very eager to learn new things! It amazes me how they can take interest in one simple thing, and before I know it, their curiosity runs wild. My little kindergartners have many backgrounds and personalities that often differ, but the one thing they all have in common is that they have the ability to learn.
Our school is a low performing, high poverty school.
We are a Title I School meaning that every student receives free/reduced-price lunches. The majority of my students struggle with reading due to lack of exposure. My hope is that this project will give my students the extra help that they deserve.
My Project
We have recently adopted a new ELA curriculum that requires many copies for small group time. As you may know, teachers only get a limited amount of copies per month. Unfortunately, I often run out of copies monthly. With this copier and toner, I’ll be able to copy ELA activity sheets, homework, math practice sheets, response sheets for learning games, and extra sheets just in case something happens to their papers (this happens quite often in Kindergarten)! I’ll also be able to print labels for students’ items. One of the things I’m most excited about is that I’ll also be able to make copies of student work to keep on file and send home! The copier, toner, labels, and paper will make the learning process much more efficient.
