In our South Eastern school district, funds and resources are EXTREMELY TIGHT!!! I teach in a diverse inner-city school where the primary commonality among them is poverty -- extreme poverty. This lack does not escape the school and its budget.
As a K-3 teacher, I have many instances where copies are needed, items need to be faxed, student pictures need to be printed, annd class brochures and newsletters need to be created on a regular basis. This is VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE with our new 'clerical schedule' and restraints.
I can only submit requests for copies once per week, and it must be something that EVERYONE on my team is using. This is not realistic and contrary to the benefits of differentiation. There are times when I need an extra copy for a student who has ripped their paper, didn't follow instructions, or a myriad of other happenstances that occur during any given day! This copier would be so helpful in providing copies of student work, students' Personal Educational Plans (PEP), and allowing me to pull from different resources other than the prescribed instructional manuals. The limitations placed upon me impact my students as I am unable to get what we need when we need it.
We need, as a class, a multi-function machine that will allow us the flexibility to get what we need, when we need it. I relish the opportunity of seizing a moment by taking a photo of a student's work or capturing a student in the act of work and possibly sending a copy home of the students' work while maintaining a portfolio at school. This machine will allow me to do that. Its description says it can do everything except talk! It has the capacity to fax items for the PEP, print photos (the students are using 2 different digital cameras during our science block), and burn Cd's (I record the children reading) and DVDs!
This is a machine that each teacher should have access to, not just a printer, but a multi-function machine that will address so many needs and allow the students to 'publish' polished pieces of work. Please help me regain some latitude and flexibility and inadvertently comply with our district's request to lessen our clerical line items from our overall budget. Your help could provide a win-win situation! Give my class our copying rights back....PLEASE!!!
