This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a group of sixth graders that are eager and willing to learn. Our school is located on the south side of Chicago. Unfortunately, because of their location, many people already believe my students are at a disadvantage. I don't agree!
Every student can learn and every student should be given the same opportunities as their peers.
A lot of my students have experienced communities riddled with violence and because of this, I believe they are stronger and even more determined not to let their environment define their possibilities. I have the pleasure of working with two six grade classes this year and our journey will strengthen and build upon previous math and science skills while preparing us for the future.
My Project
As a math teacher there are times that I have to print supplemental material for our text. Daily my students have a Do Now assignment at the start of class. Worksheets are needed for our math centers and also for our small group intervention sessions.
Having a printer in our classroom would help alleviate the stress of worrying how our materials are going to be copied and will allow more focus on providing instruction.
Unfortunately the two copiers at the school are in such high demand that they are currently in need of much overdue repairs. This copier would be the answer for helping me to provide much needed resources for my students.
