Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of students in my classroom are diagnosed with autism. My students are caring, fun, and I love teaching them through play every day! My students have significant needs in communication, social skills, motor skills and cognitive abilities. In addition, many of my students have health challenges such as feeding issues and allergies.
I teach in a Title 1 school in Southern California.
My school is located in a low socio-economic area where most students qualify for free meals. Families truly depend on our school to provide a safe, engaging and productive learning environment!
My Project
I am requesting a Color-Changing Light Table, Light Table Sensory Materials, and See-Inside Magnetic Blocks. Many of my students struggle with self-regulation and coping skills. Sensory play is a great way to address those areas of needs for my students.
Sensory activities, like the ones I plan on doing with these materials, will help my students stay calm, regulate their emotions, and learn coping skills.
These are important life skills for my students to learn and will contribute to their happiness and friendships.
I plan on using these materials daily with my students. A part of my program is to explicitly teach coping skills strategies. These materials will be a fun, engaging, and motivating way to target coping skills with my students and meet their needs!
