Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a mixture of 9th-12th grade, eager learners, and members of Colorguard, Drumline, marching band, concert band, Choir and beginning bands who come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds with over half of the population receiving free lunches. Students speak a multitude of different languages, including English, Spanish, Thai, Mandarin, Armenian and Hebrew. These students are from a school with a limited budget, and the music department manages to get through the year with the fundraising and donations we are able to receive.
My Project
Our band and choir students are studying simple melodies and rhythms from beginning method books. Most of the school copy machines are in poor condition and often are jammed. We need a copier in the band/choir room to provide students with music theory handouts and multiple copies of our arrangements. In a music classroom we cannot just stick one piece of paper on top and make 100 copies of it for all of our classes. Often times we have multiple different instruments that require different amounts of copies, for example five 1st trumpet parts, six second clarinet parts. We can accomplish a variety of tasks with the Brother black-and-white all-in-one printer. Its main feature is a 3-in-1 functionality, so you can easily print, scan and copy documents. The copy machine will be used on a daily basis. Band and Choir students constantly need extra copies of individual music parts in order to practice on their own. Student binders need to be constantly updated with new exercises and warm-ups. There is also a large amount of extra paperwork that is involved with running a beginning band program. It is imperative that the band & choir room be supplied with a good copy machine.
