Cool Kids have Logic Skills

My students need organizers for our writing center, word work materials, and manipulatives to start a STEM center.

My Students

I teach Kindergarten in an inner-city school of about 900 kids. We have a large percentage of Hispanic children, which presents a language barrier at times.

Many of my students come to me, not having learned the skills they need in order to be successful at school.

They come in not knowing their letters or their letter sounds, knowing how to count, and some can't even recognize their name!

Our school is labeled Title I, which means that many of our families are low-income/poverty level. I will have students who don't know exactly where they're going to sleep that night.

Through it all, my students are amazing because even though they have so many things that are going crazy in their life, they still come to school wanting to learn and be successful. They try their hardest to learn and that inspires me to get them the materials that will enable them to reach their full potential.

My Project

Getting these materials will allow me to post our anchor charts around the room, make a mobile word wall, organize our writing materials, and so much more!

I would love to have manipulatives so that I can start a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) center.

The building manipulatives are going to help my students build their logic and creativity skills so as they continue on in their school career, they are able to process the logic behind math concepts and sequential ideas.

Several of the items , like the stamp pads and pencils, are going to help my students continue on in their word work center activities. By doing the word work activities they are able to sound out words and practice the phonics concepts we're working on.

The clipboards will allow them to move around the room as they're working; making them comfortable in their work environment and helping them to focus so they can absorb all of the new skills we're learning.
