My Students
I currently work with an energetic group of high school students on the autism spectrum in Houston, Texas. My students are typical teenagers who are tech savvy, enjoy listening to music and surfing the internet.
Our school is a Title I school and seventy-eight percent of the students are economically disadvantaged.
This August marked one year since Hurricane Harvey devastated the Houston area, and even now, my students are still feeling the toll the storm has taken on their emotional health especially on rainy days.
Despite the challenges they face on an everyday basis, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
This project will provide snacks for my growing high school boys. My students eat breakfast around 7:00 and eat an early lunch at 10:30. Within a few hours, these guys are hungry again. The snacks requested will be given as an early morning and afternoon snack.
These snacks are essential in helping maintaining their focus and refueling their bodies to learn!
The popcorn, goldfish crackers, and other snacks are all healthy options. These snacks are also their favorites. Each day during our fitness period we discuss healthy snack choices and the requested snacks are the perfect essentials for my students reaching their potential.
