This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is situated in a high poverty area. The buildings are old but are organized as a pleasant open-air space. The school is populated by 400 vivacious children who are mild-mannered and eager to learn.
Our school was just granted a STEAM certification designation despite the many challenges that our students are facing; Most of the students in our school are English-language learners.
However, hands-on learning surpasses any language barriers. The students are excited about learning robotics, programming 3D printing and more of the like. They are challenged to learn to work together and solve problems as a team.
My Project
My students are very often busy experimenting with all sorts of materials including painting. However, we have nowhere to place their artwork to dry.
We need drying racks to place their painting to dry and keep them safe from destruction.
Right now their artwork is left to dry everywhere they can find a spot in the art room.
When you teach to an average of 400 students per week, that situation can quickly escalate to become a huge mess. Plus, the students tend to forget where they placed their work, which creates confusion.
An art room without drying racks is not very efficient. These drying racks are a necessity.
