Mrs. Robinson from Atlanta GA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a LCD projector, a tablet and 10 copies of Time For Kids magazine to read to improve their reading and read about real life.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
After breakfast, my students come into the class and start working. They complete their calendars, writing activity ( practice writing their name in cursive) and we discuss the weather. I ask the children everyday "What day is it?" We go out in the community at least three times a week.
I have 10 boys and one girl in my classroom.
The children range from 9th to 12th grade. Nine of the students are MOID (moderately intellectually disabled) and the other two are autistic. The students love to work and are eager to please their teachers. They are delightful. We are housed in a public high school.
We use an interactive website called "News 2 You" that helps the students discuss the daily weather, the calendar and class news. N2Y also have interactive daily lessons such as math, reading and Spanish. N2Y even reads to the children. The children can also complete worksheets. N2Y can assist with nonverbal students. N2Y have a program called symbolstix which are symbols attached to words to help students communicate with others or just read the symbols/words to understand what is going on around them.
The LCD projector will bring great joy to the children.
Presently, only one or two children interacts with teacher at a time because we do not have a LCD projector. With the LCD projector, the entire class can participate at one time. The magazines will come in handy during leisure time because the children do not have a lot of age appropriate fun magazines in the room. We only have two tablets in the class now. One more tablet will assist one more student during their independent work time.
