Help me give my students an warm, inviting and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere to read, write, or do group work while sitting comfortably on the soft rugs surrounded by inspirational throw pillows and world map.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in the urban core where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of the students come from low to mid-income families.
My students are creative, thoughtful, full of questions and deserving of an inviting, peaceful place to learn!
They love to get hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box. Critical thinking is a must in the world and we are intentional in this class. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful.
My Project
A welcoming and encouraging classroom is what my students look forward to daily. An aesthetically pleasing room, with rugs, pillows, and bright decor will allow students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Day to day my students are able to choose where they want to work independently. Some will choose their desk, the floor, under a table, or in the corner. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.
Being in charge and making a responsible decision, empowers my students.
They are increasingly engaged and ready to learn, participate and create.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional work space to make more effective learning choices. The rugs, throw pillows, and curtains will allow students to sit or lay on the floor and be comfortable. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. The comfy floor pillows and the plush rugs will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
