My Students
Fun, engaging, and interactive describes a typical day in the classroom of my Pre-K students. The students are actively engaged in learning and the learning process.
My students are young scholars who are eager to learn.
They are 4 and 5 year old students that attend school in the inner-city and they come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Most of the students in my classroom are learning English as a second language, and their first language is Spanish. The students in my classroom have multiple risk factors that place them at risk for educational failure.
My Project
With having an electric skillet, electric grill, griddle, mixer, cooking books, cooking utensils, bake-ware set, and gloves the children will become young healthy chefs. Teaching will help to teach basic math skills and develop language skills. Cooking in the classroom with help lay the foundations for healthy eating habits. Cooking will help them to develop cognitively by helping them to problem solve, follow a recipe, follow a sequence, carry out multiple directions, and organize ideas.
Cooking is not only a fun, engaging activity for children but one that has been used for years as a teaching and developing tool.
Cooking is an activity that is cross curricular learning. For Social Studies the students will be able to learn about their families recipes, and the job that farmers have. For Math the children will have the opportunity to work on measurement. In the subject of Science the children will be able to use and develop their 5 senses, and make observations and predictions. In the subject of Language and Literacy they will develop their language and read recipe cards.
