Have you ever seen the excitement of child cracking an egg for the first time? Or the first time you baked a cake? Some children do not get those experiences at home. I am requesting materials to make these memories with my students!
I teach kindergarten in an Oklahoma A+ school that values learning through the multiple intelligences.
My students are tactile learners who need hands-on experiences to make learning meaningful. My school serves low income students who sometimes do not get certain experiences at home, like cooking with their parents. I want to be able to provide my students with these memorable experiences while integrating them into our curriculum.
My Project
Imagine twenty little sous chefs in a kindergarten kitchen. It can be a lot of fun, but not having all of the right equipment can be challenging. The cooking materials that I have requested will make our cooking adventures in the classroom more obtainable!
Some of the materials include mixing bowls, spatulas, an electric griddle, a single burner, a pancake dispenser and a citrus juicer. My students will be able to experience social skills as we work together to read and create recipes. as well as problem solve any issues that may occur.
Cooking with kids also helps foster early math and science skills as we practice counting, weighing, measuring and estimating with every recipe. Cooking with my students also builds responsibility as they practice following directions and cleaning up after themselves.
Your donations will not only create meaningful conversations in the classroom, but it will also help foster life long skills that my students will keep with them for the rest of their lives.
