This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Time to go to math class! For some students, learning about math concepts such as fractions is boring. So, I would like to conduct a Fraction Cooking Lab to liven up our study of fractions.
Our students are from the north central part of the state of North Carolina.
They are very social and seem to enjoy technology based learning activities. Our students are active and lively about learning, especially when learning takes us "out of the classroom."
My Project
The Fraction Cooking Lab will consist of a culminating activity to end the fraction unit. Students will mix, prepare, and serve cupcakes to their classmates during math class. We will do a class swap with the Life Skills class. The resources needed for the cooking project include flour, sugar, aprons, gloves, muffin pans, and baking cups.
Students will learn how to adjust a recipe to accommodate 4 classes about 90 students total. Math concepts covered will include adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions.
Your generous donation will help rural students to enjoy fractions and cupcakes.
It will help students to make sense of fraction operations, enjoy a snack and have fun in math class.
