I teach middle school, grades 6th through 8th. What I love about the middle age students is that they are so full of energy and excitement when they make something. I do a lot of hands-on projects and they feel so happy and proud of themselves when they complete the project.
My Project
I teach the students how to cook a certain food item for the lab, learning a different cooking technique, and method. Then I encourage them to cook it at home for their family, following the recipe we learned in cooking lab and practicing the skills their learned in class. I have the students apply their math skills in class by having the student adjust the recipe to fit their family needs. For some students that means doubling the recipe, while for others students they might have to cut the recipe in half.
