This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Cooking up some art projects is messy business! I teach art at 2 Title 1 elementary schools in the low country of South Carolina. The school that needs aprons is located in a very small and high-need community. It is important for me to protect the students' clothing as I don't know if their families can afford to replace them should something get ruined by an art project.
These children are wonderfully creative if given the opportunity. I would like to give them more opportunities to explore in the world of art, but these projects are sometimes messy! These students have shown interest in painting, ceramics, collage, and pastels. I can't let them use these supplies until I know their clothing can be protected.
I need enough aprons to cover my largest class of 26 and a few extras for the super messy students. The aprons will be used daily by students ranging in level from Pre-K to 5th grade. I have so many fantastic lessons to teach that would be great learning experiences and allow students to express their individuality, however, things could get a little messy.
You will make it possible for these students to receive the same quality of instruction and variety of lessons that students in wealthier districts receive. I strive to make the art programs at my schools meet the high standards of educational equality for all. Please help me realize one step toward this goal.
