My students with autism and other special needs are excited to learn each and every day. Our school is located in a small, close knit community that has a passion for educating all students. Many of my students participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program.
My students with special needs face many challenges but work hard to learn and grow each day.
Providing my students with as many engaging opportunities to learn is of the utmost importance to me, so they can meet their goals and take pride in their learning.
My Project
My students need a large toaster oven, pans, bowls, blender, skillet, and kitchen tools to expand our weekly cooking lessons. Currently, my student with special needs have to rely on no-bake or no heat recipes when working with food. We would love to expand our recipe collection to include new foods and skills to help my students grow in the kitchen.
Cooking is a wonderful learning tool for students with special needs.
There are many skills involved in cooking including social skills, community skills, hygiene, math, and reading. Many of my students learn best when presented with hands on tasks that they can master and apply in a real world way. Cooking lets them not only gain valuable life skills but academic skills as well.
