I teach a 2nd and 3rd grade class for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in Maryland. Our school is a Title 1 school, so many of the students are from low-socioeconomic households.

Children with autism often have deficits in self-help and adaptive skills. This includes cooking/food preparation among other areas.

My students need cooking materials (pots, pans, measuring cups, etc.) as well as adapted utensils to be successful. This project will benefit my students by giving them a the materials necessary to practice cooking in school. Cooking and food preparation are critical skills in learning independence. It also teaches students sequencing (how to follow an adapted recipe), measurement, socialization, and nutrition.

By supporting my project you will make it possible for my students with autism to gain access to the cooking materials they need to learn independence, while having fun! We would be so thankful for your support!
