I teach at a one-room schoolhouse in rural Montana. We are on the edge of the Crow Indian Reservation and the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation, and most of my students are Native American. All of my students are bussed to school, some being as far as 45 minutes away.
My students are eager to learn, creative, and are always willing to try something new.
We truly are like an extended family with how close our community and school are intertwined.
My Project
We cook with our students every Tuesday. They help bring in supplies and recipes and we work together to prepare a healthy meal. We are limited on time and sometimes it is hard to get food cooked in our short amount of time before lunch. Having an Instapot will increase our cooking abilities tremendously! It will also allow us to choose healthier cooking methods like steaming our vegetables! We love to make food homemade and experiment with new recipes. Having an instapot will make so many things easier and quicker. My students love to be in the kitchen! I treasure the skills they learn from conversations, problem solving, and especially the math skills they are learning naturally by having to learn how to adjust recipes to fit our needs.
