Cooking, Growing, Thinking, and Learning in Our Classroom
Help me give my students various items to increase our ability to continue our personal maintenance, domestic maintenance, and fine motor skill growth! As well as items to help increase our critical thinking to support our STEM/STEAM activities! This includes a cookware set, K'NEX, puzzles, and other items.
I am an Autistic Support Special Education Teacher of a Public School in Philadelphia, and my students are some of the greatest teenagers that I know. My students require a functional curriculum focused on academics, communication, community, domestic, and vocational skills. This means that my job is to help prepare my students for life outside and after middle school and high school. We work on these needed skills through various ways including but not limited to cooking/baking, doing community-based instruction trips, working closely with other classes, and building skills through hands on materials. Even though my students experience economic struggles and academic barriers, they come to school every day and work their hardest in our room!
Our school is a school that provides 100% free breakfast and lunch just to give you an idea of the poverty level they come from.

My Project
The items in our project will allow my students to be able to expand our weekly cooking lessons to help expand our domestic maintenance skills. The pots, pans, cookie sheets, griddle, and cook books will allow us to practice following directions, preparing meals, and cleaning up after ourselves. The laundry detergent and the hampers will allow us to be able to extend our personal maintenance sills in practicing sorting clothing, washing clothing, and drying clothing.
The K'Nex and building items will allow my students to participate in our Think About It Thursday STEM (STEAM) activities that will help promote our critical thinking skills.
The educational games and fine motor activities will help my students practice with and build their fine motor skills which will in turn allow them to increase their abilities in and out of the classroom.
All of these items will allow my students to practice, build, and extend multiple skills that will help to make them more successful both inside and outside of the classroom. These items will allow us to extend our life skills that my students depend on.
