My Students
The students in our program walk into the classroom every day ready to learn and eager to be successful. Our program serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
Special education teachers are not only expected to deliver excellent instruction in Science, Math, English and History, but also teach students the life skills they will need to become independent adults.
My students would like to learn how to make simple meals and snacks so they can begin to take care of themselves at home. My students need a mini freezer and a second convection toaster oven so they can prepare items for our cooking lessons.
My Project
This project will add a compact freezer and a second convection toaster oven to the few appliances we already have. We currently have a microwave oven, a mini refrigerator , and a small convection toaster oven. Adding these two extra appliances will allow more students to participate in our weekly cooking lessons and allow us to prepare and store more food.
Most of my students have never prepared a meal or even a snack for themselves before.
This project will help support our students with gaining confidence and valuable life skills that they can eventually build on as they get older.
