My Students

Teaching 5 & 6 year olds is the most tiring and most rewarding job I could ever do! They come to me knowing their ABC's and leave as readers, writers, and builders. I see them learning new things all day long.

Even more valuable than reading at this age, is PLAY!!

I love watching them interact and learn how to get along and solve problems. Our center time is their favorite part of the day!

Hugs, smiles, stories, and never ending questions are just a few of the reasons I love my job!

My Project

Our school recently passed a bond issue, so next spring we will have a brand new kindergarten classroom. I love to encourage dramatic play and imagination, but all we have in our room now is an old, small, plastic kitchen set that is broken and faded. Eventually, I would love to add dress up clothes and more kitchen toys, but this would be a great start.

Through dramatic play, my kids learn how to pretend, how to work out problems like taking turns and sharing, and I can learn more about my students by listening to how they play!

This new kitchen would be a fabulous addition to our new classroom. In addition to playing house, we could use it for math skills and set up a grocery store or restaurant. We could use writing skills as we make a grocery list of things we need. The possibilities are endless!!
