My classroom has the words, LOOK, LEARN and LAUGH printed largely in the room. I strive for my room to be a place where students are encouraged to be inquisitive, wonder, think and enjoy themselves and each other.
My students are a busy, motivated group who desire and need more resources.
My fourth graders love working in groups and sharing their learning experiences. Students at our elementary school are digital learners, born into a digital world. They have diverse learning needs with various learning abilities. Our students expect and thrive on instant knowledge, feedback, and assistance. We are a small school in a rural farming community.
My Project
This project is a hodge-podge of things that would be useful in our classroom and for students at home. The biggest items are kid cookbooks that could be used for children to take home and encourage non-fiction reading and enhance math skills. Cooking is a lost skill for many children. The books will be shared within our fourth grade classrooms. Students will be able to look at indexes, table of contents, and charts in a hands-on way. It will also promote family interaction.
My fourth grade team is trying to create a list of supplies that can go home and encourage learning at home.
Our cookbooks would be on that list. We also have students that need headphones. Students are supposed to bring headphones from home, but that often doesn't happen. Having headphones that we can provide will allow students to participate better in reading activities. When there are not enough devices, splitters also allow us to share. All of these items will help more learning to happen because all students will have what they need.
The rolling cart, which looks like a kitchen sink, will be used to help in literacy activities that happen in the classroom. The cart will be able to hold supplies to help me be a better teacher with my supplies right next to me.
