Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are part of a Cornerstone Program specifically for those with moderate to severe disabilities.
We are a life skills program which trains and educates students to become contributing members of the family, workplace, and community.
Students have the opportunity to participate in various developmental activities in the following 5 domains: Vocational, Daily Living, Recreation/Leisure, Functional Academics, and Community.
All 8 of my students are nonverbal and 3 are wheelchair bound. They are eager to learn and ready for adventure!
My Project
Our classroom focuses on Daily Living as one of the five domains I teach on a weekly basis. The students get weekly cooking lessons that are simple enough for them to participate in. Since there are several classrooms who use the kitchen, many times we are unable to make it into the kitchen and miss out on our lesson.
The popcorn maker, pressure cooker, and skillet will allow my students to make easy and quick recipes in the classroom.
My students will be able to pour butter, oil, and popcorn kernels into the popcorn maker; they will place eggs into the pressure cooker without getting burned; or stir some Mac-N- Cheese in the skillet with ease.
