My students are eager, excited, and engaged in learning new things. They live in a rural area but enjoy every opportunity for exposure to culture and new experiences that our school can offer. In an effort to build self-esteem and intrinsic motivation, our classroom goal is to do something daily that you can be proud of, and I praise curiosity, hard work, and perseverance above all else.
Many of my students face steep challenges imposed by hurdles at home and within their community, but at school, they are blank slates, and I believe that they can be absolutely anything they work hard to be.
At school, we try to be the even keel in the often rocky lives of our young students. I want to impart to them, even as young 2nd graders, that they are the generation who can reshape their community and make things better. If I can help them to believe in themselves, their potential is boundless!
My Project
This is no ordinary laptop! Remember the days of opening your spiral notebook and flipping the cover around the back? Well, this convertible Chromebook has a special screen that flips around in the same way to work as a tablet as well as being able to be used as a traditional laptop computer! The full-sized screen allows small groups of students to use the computer at once for interactive games and collaborative projects.
Technology has merged into every facet of our day, and that is no different in the primary classroom.
My students use Google Classroom to organize assignments, digital portfolios to document, share, and discuss their work and achievements, digital publishing tools to refine traditional pencil-and-paper drafts, and Google Docs for collaborating and peer editing.
There are limits to what we can achieve with the technology currently available in our classroom. The touchscreen capability of this computer would provide greater access to students with different learning needs and physical capabilities without singling any children out for needing special equipment.
