Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My children are in need of challenging and engaging current event material to change the way they see the world around them. I teach third grade in an inner-city school with a high poverty rate.
The students who are in my classroom are intelligent, creative and caring children who are in need of enriching experiences to enhance their education.
Many of these families are struggling to provide the basics for survival on a day-to-day basis. These loving parents and grandparents do not have the resources to provide the life-enriching experiences that so many of us take for granted. In addition, several of the children in my classroom are experiencing educational challenges due to a variety of factors, including learning disabilities, developmental delays and severe emotional issues due to circumstances beyond their control. Consequently, these children are struggling to keep up with their peers from more affluent communities. These little ones need our help and support.
My Project
My students love love love to learn. Having a subscription to the Scholastic Magazine Storyworks Jr. will support and nurture this love.
Storyworks Jr is perfect for third graders and provides multiple reading levels for all students to be successful with the same text.
Each issue will build my English Language Learners’ English language skills with on-level text which I know they will truly enjoy. The magazine provides both literature and informational text which are highly engaging and presented in a way that will hook my most reluctant reader to continue reading.
Storyworks Jr. has the engaging text that will make it possible to reach all my students and build my most reluctant readers’ self-confidence in reading. Your donation will make it possible to build the reading, writing and thinking skills my students need to succeed in school and beyond.
