Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in a Title I, 6-12 school, in the South Bronx. They come from different backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. One hundred percent of the students receive free lunch. In the ICT class, I have students with special needs, and it is important to have multiple access points to reach all students in a class.
The majority of my students come in with very low test scores in both ELA and math, but when they graduate high school, they are at or exceeding grade level.
Students meet the social and emotional needs with the support of ICT teachers, school support, and after-school activities. Students are college and career ready when they graduate from school.
My Project
The donations to this project will help the middle school basketball team improve their basic dribbling and shooting skills. Every student-athlete needs their own basketball to increase repetition of what they do on the court. This will help them be prepared for games when they compete against other schools in the league.
It is important to put the student-athletes in situations that will help them succeed.
The more they have access to the equipment, the better they will be at practice. Students will be motivated to attend practices as they will be engaged for every minute reducing the wait time for their turn to run a drill. Overall, this will change the culture of the team.
