This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Studies have shown that if students have an outlet to release their energy, they will perform better in school. I would like them to complete research projects relating to a topic that interests them within the theme of sports and fitness. My students need a Samsung Chromebook, to be used for research relating to getting active.

I teach 5th grade at an urban, high poverty school in North Carolina.

The majority of our students receive free and/or reduced lunch. While we have started the school year with so many of our students working below grade level, we are making strides but we still have a really long way to go in order to close the achievement gap and reach our end of the year academic goals.

My Project

Many of my students do not have the background knowledge they need in order to live healthy, active lives. Between poor food choices and limited time spent engaging in sports and fitness activities, many of my students are on their way to living unhealthy lives. With your help, we can be the catalysts. I would like them to complete research projects relating to a topic that interests them within the theme of sports and fitness. I think that these projects will inspire my students to make choices that will positively impact their lives.

This project will make a difference because it will not only impact my students' academics, it will impact their overall health!

They will be able to spend time reading about health and fitness and then, create a health plan for themselves so that they can work towards living healthy lives and making a difference in the lives of their families. The habits they start now can follow them for the rest of their lives and I want those habits to be positive ones.
