Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Fifth grade students at a campus that is comprised of a population that is 98.9% Hispanic, 84% economically disadvantaged and with a mobility rate of less than 10%. My students continue to learn the lesson of what can we control and take ownership of their role in their learning. We are dedicated.
The purpose of this request is to create the availability of hands-on technology in the classroom and further the academic excellence of my students by providing them with 21st century skills that support their personal and district academic goals.
Providing my students with a one-to-one technology experience will foster their academic growth and curiosity alongside preparing for their transition into middle school, high-school and eventually college.
Continuing on Our Digital Bridge requires that we infuse the classroom with technology that is easily integrated and that my students can actively engage with not only as a learning tool but also as a tool to produce. To that end our technology request attempt to begin Empowering Students Through Art and allow them to create material of artistic value and cement their learning.
My Project
The objective is two-fold; one that my students are able to integrate technology as media literate consumers in a manner that supports state standards and also are able to produce material for others to consume. The second objective is to further reading instruction by teaching them that as readers we also learn to create content for others to consumer.
The use of technology integrates skills that students must acquire in order to function on day-to-day experiences. Consider working at most fast-food restaurants the interface of the point of sale system they will may use is computer based and touch screen managed. The propagation of the internet is adapting the manner in which media is consumed and our learners must be adapted to make use of the developing technologies. Furthermore, our students must develop the ability to think critically as the work force is requiring that more and more potential employees are STEM/STEAM focused.
For many the idea of college is an empty phrase which holds no bearing on their future.
I believe that everyone's success is different. While for some success is graduating and raising a family, without education that future will always be limited. My students have a passion for understanding.
