We use current technology every day in the classroom. Technology keeps students engaged, while providing differentiation for different learning styles. They use their technology to create projects, work collaboratively, presentations, websites, and much more. Technology helps students succeed.
Our students come from a variety of incomes and homes.
We are a Title 1 school, and 40% of our students are on free and reduced price lunch. We have been a digital classroom for the last 8 years, however our current technology is aging, and will no longer accept updates. This means we will have to revert back to a classroom that has little access to technology. Technology truly changes a classroom for the better. It gives students so much access to the world, that they will not have without working devices.
My Project
There are so many ways that technology will be used to increase student learning in the classroom. One way is that it will give students access to Google Docs. This will give students the ability to work on projects and presentations at home as well as at school. Parents would be able to help their child at home with assignments. In addition, they will have access to websites that differentiate learning to each student, and gives them problems at their level. They will have access to information to help them with reports and projects. Students will be able to practice keyboarding daily. We will use technology in every subject to make learning more worthwhile and rewarding. It will help prepare them for a future that is technology based, since technology is a integrated into every part of our daily lives.
After teaching digitally for so many years, I am dreading reverting back to a paper consumptive classroom that has little to no access to technology.
This feels like a giant step backwards to me. Our current laptops will no longer take updates, they freeze constantly, and they are dying on a daily basis. With this project I am hoping to renew the technology, and begin building towards getting a device back into every students hand and give them back the access to our digital world.
