My Project

Avi is an amazing author and my kids have discovered the Dimwood Forest Series by Avi. The Dimwood Forest books tell the tale of mice living their best life in the forest. They go on many adventures and meet many wildly funny characters. We have enjoyed reading three of the books by Avi as a class and I want to expose my students to more books by the same great author.

When kids are exposed to books by great authors they will discover more books they can read on their own.

It is proven that when kids read more, independently, their reading comprehension levels grow. We are currently in a world where we need to grow readers. When I realized that my current students have not had a normal school year since they were in second grade I knew I had a lot of ground to cover and make up with them. Unfortunately a lot of kids do not come to school with a love to read; we have to help them develop that love.

Now that my students know Avi as an author, I want them to be able to read more books by the same author and see how different his style can be. I am ordering three of each of some of my favorite books by Avi if this project is funded. These books will give students a chance to read a book and with three copies of each they can have a friend reading the same book and then have book talks.
