Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an amazing school in the heart of Boston. My classroom is a preschool inclusion classroom serving children from ages three to five. All of my students receive free lunch, and most are English language learners. Because my school is so diverse, all of my students come from varying backgrounds and have a wide range of abilities. It is such a great privilege of mine to be able to watch these children grow and build an important foundation of knowledge.
Coming into school this school year, I want to ensure that each child in my class has the materials he or she needs to succeed and master our curriculum.
My Project
Our classroom currently has outdated and uncomfortable chairs! We need new chairs that are more appropriate and safe for preschoolers. I am asking for 16 contemporary plastic base chairs that have ball glides for quiet movement. These chairs are designed with aerodynamics in mind and have flexibility built into their plastic bases. Movement is great for little learners. I have been having a lot of difficulty with students falling out of their chairs during small group work. I worry about their safety as well as their ability to focus on learning in hard metal chairs.
My preschoolers deserve safe and comfortable seating to do their work in.
I am also requesting 2 Hokki stools for students who need to be provided with more movement than a typical chair offers. We have two stools and they are a hit in the classroom. Thank you in advance for your support!
