Help me give my students the tools necessary to use color. Art media gets consumed every year and needs to be replaced, items like colored pencils, markers, and oil pastels.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in an economically challenged area in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Our school has pre-K through 8th grade classrooms and we also have many special education classrooms including ECDD, MOCI, MICI and ASD.
Art class allows our students an opportunity to be creative.
I teach nearly every student in the school and try to give each grade level a different art experience. Each class has a minimum of 25 students per class, with some up to 36. Every student deserves the chance to shine through art.
My Project
These supplies will be used by ALL the students (K-5) that come through the art room this year. Markers get used up or dry out. Colored pencils get sharpened so low that they can not be used any longer. Because these materials are consumed each year, they need to be replenished for students to create successful, colorful art projects.
New art media such as watercolor pencils and oil pastels are also being requested.
This will allow me to expand my students' experiences in art in the coming year. Being in a low-income community, these students haven't had the opportunity to try these potentially new art materials. Hopefully with your help, my students can use new and familiar art materials.
