My students need cardstock to construct roller coasters to reinforce physical science concepts.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are special because they come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Regardless that my students may come from poverty, may be homeless, have a single parent in the home, or not know where their next meal is coming from, they are eager and ready to learn. The majority of my students are on free and reduced lunch and they may not have the financial opportunities and means to further explore their thoughts and ideas. I want to provide my students with different learning materials to help guide them into becoming lifelong learners regardless of their situations and/or low socioeconomic backgrounds.
Each student has the ability to learn with a variety of engaging materials and, I strive to be able to provide my students with special opportunities to help them deepen their love of learning and become critical thinkers and problem solvers.
Being able to have access to the smaller learning accessories, students will be able to make larger investments in their education and feel a sense of achievement by achieving and exceeding their own academic goals.
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because having supplies that provide a hands-on approach to learning is key to mastering concepts. Physical science is a challenging subject to conquer and comprehend how matter and forces react to environmental conditions. I feel my students get the most out of any learning experience by doing and using materials, that can be manipulated to produce constructive creations working collaboratively as a team.
Students are always more engaged in learning when they are challenged with the task of creating models to evaluate and analyze concepts.
Students will synthesize card stock in an effective way that will produce models of roller coasters to reiterate forces, speed, and concepts of physics and acceleration. This learning opportunity will provide my students with an understanding of how roller coasters work even if they have not been to theme park and experienced the thrill of riding the roller coasters.
