Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in East San Jose. A majority of my students are first-generation Americans with hardworking immigrant parents. Seventy percent of the students at my school are receiving free or reduced-priced lunch.
I teach a wonderful group of Kindergarten students.
My students are hard working and enthusiastic learners. They are easily motivated and enjoy attending school every day. They are always excited to try and learn new concepts. My students inspire me every day to be a better teacher.
My Project
Construction paper is essential for any Kindergarten class. We use construction paper everyday for art, literacy, math and science activities. Every week, my students focus on a letter. We use construction paper to create animal art projects for the letter of the week. For example, this week our letter of the week is Oo. We made an octopus and we read fictional and nonfictional stories about octopuses. We learned interesting facts and we wrote an informational piece about them. My students still have many letters to learn, but our supply of construction paper is diminishing almost down to nothing. My students will not be able to continue with these activities without your generosity.
